Aligarh Muslim University (AMU)

Aligarh Muslim University is in Aligarh, a city in Uttar Pradesh, India. This Central University came into existence with the initiative taken by Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, who was involved in social activities concerning the Mohammedan community in India. Initially, the University was known as the Anglo-Oriental Mohammadan College and was set up as a residential seat of learning. The Anglo-Oriental Mohammadan College became affiliated to the Allahabad University in 1885, after being under the Calcutta University during its formative years.

The University currently offers over two hundred fifty courses (250) covering mostly all branches of education with a student strength of over thirty thousand. It also has more than eighty (80) Departments and two thousand (2000) teachers and other faculty members. Students from abroad, mostly from Africa and some parts of Asia come to study in this University.

The Delhi University came into being as a result of an act past by the then Central Legislative Assembly in 1922. Jawaharlal Nehru University, JNU

Introduction
Named after the first prime minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) is a premier institute of learning in the country. The University is located in southern New Delhi, the capital of India and the seat of the Indian Government. JNU’s main focus is research and the postgraduate courses that it offers are therefore research-oriented. There are some 4000 students pursuing different courses at the university. The staff strength is around 500. The University has been organized into nine schools (these nine schools can have centers of their own) and four independent special centers.
A number of these centers like Center for Historical Studies, Center for the Study of Social Systems, Center for Political Studies, Center for Economic Studies and Planning, Center for the Study of Regional Development, all in the School of Social Sciences have been declared as centers of excellence. The JNU campus is well accessible from road as well as the three railway stations i.e., New Delhi, Delhi, Hazrat Nizammuddin. The Indira Gandhi International Airport is located close by.
Jawaharlal Nehru University was established through an Act of Parliament in 1969. The objective behind the establishment of the institution was to have an educational body that promoted the study of principles of national integration, social justice, secularism, and democratic way of life, international understanding and scientific approach in solving the society’s complex problems.     Admission to JNU is tough in the sense that the number of seats at the university is numbered. Admission is strictly based on merit. The provisions of merit are decided by the Admission policy of the University. Under the reservation policy of the government, up to 22.5% seats have been reserved for SC/ST candidates and a further 3% have been allotted to physically challenged candidates.

    As per the objectives of the University, several initiatives have been taken to ensure that students from outside India join the university in required numbers.     Maulana Azad National Urdu University

    The Maulana Azad National Urdu University in Hyderabad. was established on 9th January, 1998. While it is headquarters and administrative office is in Hyderabad, it has regional offices in Bangalore, Delhi and Patna. The University was set up by an act of Parliament with the objective of bringing about a qualitative improvement in the Urdu language and to educate students in vocational and technical studies through this language.     SELECTION:

    • For P.G degree, Diploma and certificate pro gramme selections are made on the basis of performance in the Entrance Examination and interview.
    • For B. Tech Pro gramme selections are made on the rank in the All India Engineering, Architecture Entrance Examination (AIEEE) conducted by the CBSE usually held on April .The Candidates must apply separately to the Tezpur University.

    Entrance examination centers are at Imphal, Itanagar, Jorhat, Kokrajhar, North Lakhimpur, Agartala, Aizawl, Dibrugarh, Guwahati Shillong, Silchar, Siliguri and Tezpur.
     

    Application forms and prospectus can be obtained from Head Post Office at Agartala, Aizwal, Dibrugarh, Imphal, Itanagar, Jorhat, Kokrajhar, Guwahati (Panbazar), North Lakhimpur, Shillong, Silchar, Siliguri and Tezpur.by paying Rs. 325 in cash or by sending a request to the Controller of Examinations, Tezpur University, P.O.- Napam, Tezpur, PIN- 784028, Dist- Sonitpur, Assam with a bank draft of Rs. 350 drawn in favor of the Registrar, Tezpur University payable at Tezpur .
    Application forms are given from the month of March to April. The entrance test is held in the month of June.

    The University of Hyderabad is a Central University established in the year 1974.     System of Education and Assessment in the University: The University has a student-teacher ratio of 1 teacher for every 9 students, which according to Indian standards is exceptional. The courses in the University are taught in semesters. Two semesters, each having a duration of 16-18 weeks make an academic year and the performance of students are assessed continuously through class work, practical work and outdoor activities. The final outcome is arrived at by evaluating the periodic assessments and the results of the last semester examinations.
    A student must secure at least 40% marks in order to pass the Masters in Arts, Science and other disciplines. Students getting less than 40% marks in any semester are required to take supplementary tests during the first week of the next semester.

    Located in the serene and picturesque setting of rural Bengal in the district of Birbhum, Santiniketan was Rabindranath Tagore’s dream project of an open–air University to be conceived in the wombs of nature. Visva-Bharati University came into being on 23rd December, 1921 and is one of the most reputed of all the Central Universities in India. Visva – Bharati became a Central University in 1951.
